Sometimes you just gotta go big and it doesn't get much bigger then Alaska!! The scenery was fantastic and I enjoyed pretending to be a photographer while capturing as much of the granduer as I could. Here are a few of my favorite shots as we traveled from Anchorage to Seward, three hours south.
We headed back to Anchorage and went to Humpy's from the show Man vs Food. It was pretty cool and the food was super yummy. We didn't do the challange-it cost $150!!- but I did order the berry crisp with vanilla ice cream and it was heaven!!! Best berry crisp EVER!!! YUM!
Sunday morning we flew from Anchorage to Juneau to see the Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. It was amazing to be able to just walk up to the bottom of the waterfall.
The mountains, rivers, trees, snow, lakes, and everything else just kept me constantly in awe. What an amazing beautiful place!!! Freezing cold, but so beautiful. Mendenhall Glacier was cool because you could hike as far as the waterfall which put you super close to the glacier. The lake had huge icebergs floating in it and sometimes smaller chunks would break off and float towards the shore, like this:
I found a pretty big piece, then Bekah had to one up me. :)
I can't believe how clear these chunks of ice are!! While the scenery was amazing, I really thought we would have seen more wildlife. We didnt' see a single bear, moose, or reindeer (even though we did try reindeer sausage, also yum!). I'm afraid this is the extent of the wildlife we saw on our trip:
GI Joe, of course. I'm pretty sure he was there protecting us from the Grizzleys. Since we didn't see any he must be pretty good at his job.
Poor little guy
These huge beasts are known as dogs. Giant woolen creatures of the north. I'd never seen such huge animals. I thought at first they were some kind of wolf/horse hybrid. Nope, just dogs.
After the Glacier we went back to downtown Juneau. The downtown area was all closed up, and we also saw the Capital building and the Governor's Mansion. Are you allowed to put political leaflets on the Governor's door?? I guess in Alaska you are.
Well, on that bombshell, thanks friends and join me next time for Great Adventures!
(I wouldn't be suprised if they just showed this blog instead of Sarah Palin's silly Alaska Show. I do have some one of a kind footage here.)
